Researching the Seams: On Line Workshop

The Mining the Seams project, funded by the Wellcome Trust, has made accessible the National Coal Board (NCB) archives for the NCB North Derbyshire Area and Warwickshire coalfield.

An on line workshop takes place on Wednesday, 13th October 2021 from 12.55pm to 4.00pm. It will discuss the Mining the Seams project, the forthcoming project to preserve the records of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and the state of Midlands based coalmining archives in general.

This workshop is especially aimed at universities; with the intention to see how students and researchers can be encouraged to engage with these new resources. However, it should be of interest to people with a stake in the history of British coalmining, especially in the Midlands.

A round the table discussion will follow the presentations to discuss how students and researchers can be encouraged to engage with the coal archives, and what else can be done to improve accessibility of coal collections in the Midlands.
