Under the Nottingham Area NUM rules, election of Branch committees took place annually between 15th May and 29th June at every Nottinghamshire NUM branch. If someone was uncertain of being re-elected they were amusingly referred to has having the ‘June Jitters’.  The NUM Branch Committee’s term of office was from 1st July to 30th June. In Nottinghamshire, the NUM Branch Secretary was the senior branch official. Many of the miners putting up for election were known by their nicknames which appeared on the branch ballot form.
