‘Tories will bring pits axe’ – Benn

‘Ousted Tony Benn received a standing ovation and warned this government would bring pit closures, when he spoke to miners and their families at Berry Hill Gala on Saturday’ – Notts Free Press

In June 1983, Tony Benn was the special guest at the Nottingham Area NUM Miners Gala at Mansfield. Althought it wasn’t known at the time, this would be the last ever Nottinghamshire Miners Gala. The first Notts NUM Gala was held at Basford Hall in 1949.
