East Midlands Coalmining Heritage Forum – Spring 2024 meeting at the Bilsthorpe Heritage Museum

Representatives from East Midlands based coalmining heritage organisations and the National Coalmining Museum for England met on 27th April 2024 at the threatened Bilsthorpe Heritage Museum for the Spring 2024 meeting of the East Midlands Coalmining Heritage Forum (EMCHF).  The EMCHF was set up in 2026 to try and improve networking between organisations and ensure that important local coalmining heritage collections are not lost.

In March 2024 the Bilsthorpe Heritage Museum, an accredited museum, was informed by the local parish council that they had to commence looking for a new home because the village hall site which they are based would be required for redevelopment in the future. Negotiations are ongoing to try and resolve the issue.

A petition against the threatened closure can be signed on-line at https://www.change.org/p/preserve-bilsthorpe-s-local-heritage-site?recruiter=43500934&recruited_by_id=92e38ae0-6a67-0130-0e5c-3c764e04e8f9&utm_source=share_petition&utm_campaign=share_petition&utm_term=share_for_starters_page&utm_medium=facebook&utm_content=fht-37965071-en-gb%3Acv_1024999
